Visit to the “Méthamoly” Methanization Site, a Success Story.

Wednesday, 30 November 2022

Around twenty representatives from the partner entities of the LIFE_LETsGO4Climate project visited Méthamoly, a biomethane production site located in the Community of Municipalities of Monts du Lyonnais (42), in early April. The uniqueness of this site lies in its governance: alongside farmers and industrialists, local authorities and citizens (via the Energie Partagée Investment Fund) are part of the project’s capital and participate in its governance. Méthamoly produces 14 GWh of renewable gas each year from 20,000 tons of local waste. The gas produced is injected into the GRDF distribution network, and the digestate, the organic residue from the methanization process, is used as a natural fertilizer by the partner farmers. Since 2020, the site has also powered a BioGNV station, biomethane for vehicles, mainly used for school buses. Méthamoly is a regional project supported by local authorities and led by a group of 12 farmers, the OSER Investment Fund of the Rhône-Alpes region, SEM Soleil, Engie Bioz, and citizen investment through the association Energie Partagée.
