First “I Ride My Bike to School” Challenge Held in Touraine

We are proud to announce the first event created in the Tours Métropole Val de Loire area following the LIFE_LETsGO4Climate “Dare the Transition” workshops. A first concrete project for collective energy efficiency in mobility, which took place on Friday, June 16, 2023!

A group of citizens set themselves the goal of carrying out an energy efficiency project focused on mobility in the Touraine area. This group of motivated citizens, accelerated by Collectif Cycliste 37, organized the first “I Ride My Bike to School” Challenge in Touraine!!! The objective of this initiative is to promote alternative modes of transportation to individual cars by engaging parents, schools, and cities in children’s mobility. Schoolchildren were invited to travel by bicycles, balance bikes, scooters, rollerblades…

For this first year, two school groups participated in the challenge :

• Choisille School Group in Monnaie
• Buisson-Molière School Group in Tours (Place de la Liberté)

500 children from the school groups got on their two wheels (bicycles, balance bikes, scooters…) accompanied by their parents.

• 310 children at Buisson-Molière (85% participation)
• 150 children at Monnaie (32% participation)

Before the event:
Training sessions were organized to teach parents how to ride safely in the city with their children, and technical bike check-ups were conducted.
