Second« l’école, j’y vais à vélo » Challenge Organized in Touraine this May!
The 2024 edition of the “I Ride My Bike to School” Challenge took place from Monday, May 27, to Friday, May 31, 2024. Ten schools located in Tours Métropole Val de Loire and Touraine-Est Vallées participated in this year’s edition, including schools in Tours, Monnaie, Savonnières, Joué-lès-Tours, Reugny, Vernou-sur-Brenne, Montlouis-sur-Loire, and Véretz. Each school selected a specific day within the week for the challenge.
2024 Results:

For the six primary schools (eight in total, including the two preschools in Monnaie and Véretz) in the Touraine-Est Vallées area, 650 children took part this year.

- A group of citizens from the Touraine-Est Vallées community teamed up with those from Tours Métropole to organize the challenge in various schools across the region, in collaboration with Collectif Cycliste 37.
- The “I Ride My Bike to School” Challenge is an initiative promoting children’s cycling mobility in public spaces. It focuses on the home-to-school journey, encouraging families to adopt cycling as a daily mode of transport. Children are motivated to ride their bikes (or scooters) to school.
- The event ultimately aims to normalize and encourage cycling as a sustainable transportation method.
- At the end of the challenge, participating schools receive a certificate based on their participation rate (rated with 1, 2, 3, or 4 wheels).
- Practicing this habit daily brings both individual and collective benefits, including:
✔ Reducing carbon footprints in daily commutes
✔ Combating sedentary lifestyles among children
✔ Improving air quality in urban areas
The event is supported by the Syndicat des Mobilités de Touraine (SMT), the regional mobility authority covering Tours Métropole, Vernou-sur-Brenne, Vouvray, and La Ville-aux-Dames, along with the Touraine-Est Vallées community and the municipalities hosting participating schools.
